Founded 1982. Pronounced 'no-ack'. Very few new clients taken on.Will consider high-quality full-length fiction; general non-fiction (especially biography, travel, history). Material submitted on an exclusive basis preferred.

No children's, short stories, poetry, plays, screenplays, cookery, gardening, Mind, Body & Spirit, scientific/ academic/ specialist non-fiction or any illustrated books. Initial approach should consist of a brief description of the book plus 2-3 sample chapters. Return postage essential. Email attachments will not be opened and faxed submissions will not be considered. No reading fee.

Fiction for 9-12 year-olds and teenage fiction (home 15%, USA 20%). No children's non-fiction or illustrated books. Also handles adult fiction and non-fiction; approx. one-third of list is for the children's market. Send letter plus synopsis and 3 chapters. Will not accept submissions by email or fax but initial enquiry may be made by email.

Children's authors include David Almond, Anthony Horowitz, Graham Marks, Linda Newbery, Katherine Roberts, Jean Ure.
