Synaesthesia Synopsis

Synaesthesia is the story of an enigmatic young man, Xan Van Sek, who is sent to a tropical paradise on a mission to deliver a gift from his darkly mysterious father to a Dr. Tom Pit who has been living in the remote forests of a forgotten land.

The tale begins with a chaotic departure from a post-apocalyptic air terminal, his meeting an attractive woman old enough to be his mother and him recounting to her some of the details of his life to that point in a scene that is analogous to a birthing process.

Our hero reluctantly takes leave of this comforting woman and embarks on a hilariously terrifying roller coaster ride of travels in the tropics of a hallucinatory alternate reality.

Over the course of twenty seven eventful days he matures and follows the path of life stages described in the Hindu Vedas. Learning as a student, loving as a partner, succeeding in business, then renouncing worldly affairs and fading into the spiritual world. The pace never slackens and there is a surprise in every chapter.

With whispers and shouts from some of our best loved storytellers, Conrad, Orwell, Wells, Castaneda, Theroux and Carey among countless others this epic saga blends history, morality and religion with action, suspense and romance in a faraway fantasy land.

That the narrator is a synaesthetic colours the story with a poetic palette to delight the senses, that he draws from nine languages titillates the deepest recesses of the psyche.

Buckle your safety belt and open your mind, if you dare!
