Just Walking
This narrow road is so long and it feels that it is not leading any
where. It is a tough road full of obstacles, temptations and traps. As I
walked down this narrow road, what do I see? Dead bodies of men, women
and children who tried to walked this narrow road but for some reason,
they could not walk any further.
As I walked down this narrow road and seeing no end or light in the
tunnel to reconfirm my faith that I am indeed not struggling for
nothing. As I walked down this long narrow road with put holes, I
remember the great teachers who gave up their valuable time to teach me
why it is so important to walk down the narrow uncompromising road and
to tell me that there is no alternative to the road of salvation.
As I look over to the other side, I see a wide road where many walk with
speed and determination. They don’t know or care where they are going
but they seem happy to walk this wide road that leads no way worth
going. There does not appear to be any restrictions on their road and
they are free to make up their own rules as they go alone. Unlike me, I
have many rules to remember, however, these rules are not burdensome.
Why is that? I walk out of love and devotion of the one who calls me to
walk this narrow road. Who calls me? Think about it and the answer will
come to you.
We read in the good book that Moses saw the promise land before he died,
so we know that the promise land is real. We read the speeches of Dr
Martin Luther King when he says “I have seen the promised land, but I
may not be there with you but I have seen the promised land”.
As I look over the wide road, I see a young man walking towards a
woman’s house which appears to be a place where you can hire a woman for
the night. I shout out to the man, “don’t go in, come over to my road
and save yourself”, but he can’t hear me. I shout the words louder and
wave my arms to get his attention but sadly, the man is drunk on the
woman’s beauty and he can only see her. So I am forced to watch this man
walk to his death and I am powerless to stop him. I have to respect his
decision to make that choice. In our organisation, people must choose
who they want to follow and we can’t make that decision for them. It is
a bit like watching your children make a mistake and you can tell them
that they are making a mistake or going the wrong way but would they
listen? No, they think they know best and you don’t know nothing or know
what you are talking about. So you are forced to watch them make a wrong
decision or go the wrong way. Leaving you to pray that they will know
this before it is too late but in reality they may have to live with
this mistake for the rest of their life.
I will keep on walking my narrow road even though it is a struggle
because they are no easy options to the good life. As we read in the
good book, if you want something good, you have to work hard for it. As
I walk passed these dead bodies on the narrow road, it is clear to me
that these people gave up walking the road of righteousness, the road to
ever lasting life. There were tempted or desired what the people had in
the wide road and “the force” punished them for having these thoughts.
These thoughts were so strong that it was obvious to “the force” that
they would cross over and die. You can cross over from the wide road to
the narrow one. These people do because they realised that they have
taken the wrong path and they seek “the force’s” forgiveness and
promised to lead a righteous life from then on. However, you cannot
cross over from the narrow road to the wide one because you have
rejected “the force’s authority” and the punishment is death. That’s the
rules and it is not opened to negotiations.
It remind me of the story of Lot. Lot and his family were given a
warning not to look back to the city that is about to be destroyed. All
listen except one person, Lot’s wife. For some reason, she missed the
city and what it had to offer more then gaining ever lasting life. So
she turned to look once more at the city and as she looked she turned
into pillar of salt as her punishment for being disobedient to “the
force”.
I don’t want to make the same mistake as Lot’s wife, that’s why I am
walking with faith, confidence and determination that there is only one
road to ever lasting life and I would be a fool to walk anywhere else.
So I am just walking, walking with a purpose, to gain ever lasting life.
Now who will walk with me?
