The Information (formerly Data Protection) Commissioner
The DPR is a public register of data controllers.
http://www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk/
Each entry in the register includes the name and address of the data
controller. Individuals can consult the register to find out what
processing of personal data is being carried out by a particular data
controller. Notification is the process by which a data
controller's details are added to the register. The Data Protection Act
1998 requires everybody processing personal data to notify unless they are
exempt.

There is also an active debate about the issues of taxing
e-commerce as intellectual property flows across frontiers.

an agent in each country. In the UK this is the bibliographic compilers
Whitaker.
www.whitaker.co.uk

the link to their ISBN service.
The Metropolitan Police
The UK's senior police force based in New Scotland Yard. http://www.met.police.uk/
Parliament
There are a number of official sites covering Parliament. Try this
or this.
Ironically, it is pretty hard to find any useful information about
existing legislation.
Public Record Office
Provides access to thousands of documents. Its Pathways to the
Past provides a stunning selection of historical material, a
treasure-chest for any student or researcher in history.

Government Statistics
This is a goldmine for the numerically
curious. There isn't a table for the way hemlines went up and down
between the wars but if you dig around you could probably work it out. It
helps if you understand how spreadsheets work.
