Scanning service

Do you have an elderly typescript which you would like to restore to its pristine state? Does your work only exist in an old typescript, so that you can’t work at revising or updating it on your computer, let alone submit it to agents or publishers?

Our new scanning service can help. We can scan your manuscript and send it back to you as an email attachment or on disk.

First you need to get a good-quality photocopy of the original, with plenty of contrast. Please note that the scanning is much more accurate if a photocopy is used rather than the original.

Email us to get instructions for where to send your work. When you send it, please enclose return postage, preferably in the form of a large, stamped and self-addressed jiffy bag, so that we can make sure your ms is safely returned to you. Once we have looked at it, we will email your quote to you and you can then decide whether or not you want to go ahead with the scanning.

Please note that you will need to read the manuscript through carefully after it has been scanned, to make sure that no errors have crept in during the scanning process. Mistakes will creep in as ‘l’ and ‘1’, ‘rn’ and ‘m’ can be confused during the scanning process, but a spell-checker will find 99% of these errors.

What it costs

Scanning is very much easier if the page is clear and a good typeface has been used. Our charges start from 20p a page and go up to £1 per page if we are asked to scan a yellowing or particularly indistinct manuscript, as this will require a lot of manual input. For a 300 page ms, our charges would range from £60 to £300.

All Scanning fees are payable in advance, once the quote has been provided.
